Google is shutting down its dedicated Street View app

Google Street View

You can add a standalone Street View app to Google’s growing graveyard of products. After decompiling the latest version of the Android app, 9to5Google found a termination notice that the company has yet to release. In the announcements, the tech giant announces that the Street View app will be discontinued and that support will end on March 21, 2023. Spokeswoman Madison Gouveia confirmed to The Verge that the app is indeed getting the ax. Gouveia also told the publication that Google will pull Street View from its app stores in the coming weeks.

Google announced in 2015 that it was weaving Street View into its own app. It is available for both Android and iOS and allows you to upload your own spherical photos from your phone or spherical cameras. Last year, the company also introduced Photo Paths, which let you contribute a series of 2D photos of roads and places that haven’t been documented by a Street View car (or camel, or sheep) in the past.

Street View will continue to be a key feature of Google Maps, so you can still virtually explore all the places the tech giant has documented with its cameras. You can also continue to add Photo Sphere photos to Maps and publish 360° videos using Street View Studio. However, as 9to5Google notes, once Google completely shuts down the dedicated Street View app, it will no longer be possible to add Photo Tours. However, previously submitted Photo Path images will still be viewable in Google Maps.
